Singer Chris Brown recently found himself dealing with the courts once again. This time, however, it didn’t involve a run-in with the law. Brown, as our readers likely remember, was convicted in 2009 of assaulting fellow singer Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time. Last year, he was arrested for violating the terms of his probation for that conviction.
Brown has been fighting for custody of a daughter that he says he learned about earlier this year. This summer, he filed papers to establish paternity of the girl, whose name is Royalty.
The judge awarded Brown joint custody of his 14-month-old daughter, to be shared with the girl’s mother, a model. The mother had been trying to deny him any custody and only supervised visitation. Brown claimed that the woman wasn’t letting him see the little girl.
Brown also prevailed on another front. The judge set his monthly child support payments at $2,500. That’s considerably less than the $15,000 a month that the mother was seeking.
Last month, the 26-year-old singer appeared to lash out at Royalty’s mother, although not by name, via Twitter. He lambasted women who “use children as meal tickets.” He noted, “Some men my age run from their responsibility as fathers. I embrace mine.”
Whether being a father will change Brown’s behavior remains to be seen. However, at this year’s BET Awards, he said, “A lot has changed in my life, a lot of mistakes, a lot of lessons learned.
