Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn to divorce husband

On Behalf of Weinman & Associates, P.C. | Dec 1, 2011 | Divorce

Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn and her husband have begun divorce proceedings, according to a news report.

Many Austin area residents may be aware that Thomas Vonn, who married Minnesotan Lindsey Kildow four years ago, did officially file for divorce last week.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lindsey Vonn was successful prior to her wedding day, but it was during her marriage that she became a superstar. She not only became one of the top racers in U.S. history during this time, she also attained celebrity status. Her achievements during her marriage include becoming a gold medal skier in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and also achieving many lucrative endorsements.

Thomas Vonn, who is nine years older than Lindsey Vonn, is a former U.S. Olympic skier as well. Of late, he is well known for standing by Lindsey Vonn during her career. He has coordinated interviews, given her tips on the slopes and also worked on logistics behind the scenes. Reportedly, he will no longer be her chief adviser.

Lindsey Vonn, who has won three overall World Cup titles and 42 World Cup wins, has said that she will continue to be coached by the U.S. team and compete for the rest of the season.

These two champion skiers now have a new challenge in front of them. Divorce can be the most stressful event in a person’s life.

It was not reported in the news article whether the couple has a pre-nuptial agreement which would impact the results of their divorce. Whether they have such an agreement or not, there are many factors that will be examined during a high-asset divorce like this.

Whether the divorce is contested or uncontested, the financial aspects should always be studied thoroughly from the time a divorce is first considered. There may be complex property division, valuation of assets and tax implications that could come into play while each party works to protect their financial rights and interests.
