Kardashian Odom marriage breaking up

On Behalf of Weinman & Associates, P.C. | Dec 20, 2013 | Divorce

Yet another celebrity marriage is in the process of breaking up. Texas fans of 29-year-old reality TV star Khloe Kardashian and her former husband, NBA forward Lamar Odom, are headed to divorce court after four years of marriage. She recently filed court papers to initiate proceedings to end the marriage and reclaim her maiden name of Kardashian after calling herself Mrs. Odom for quite a while.

Her athlete husband fell on hard times on the basketball court last year, leaving the NBA when no team wanted to sign him after putting in a lackluster performance last season. He was also in the news, and not in a good way, when he pleaded no contest to a DUI charge, although it was a misdemeanor. He was also plagued by persistent rumors of unspecified serious personal problems, exemplified by a tweet that recently informed the world that he was “Seeing the Snakes,” leading many to wonder what in the world he was talking about.

He and his now-estranged wife had a reality TV series together for a brief period of time, titled “Khloe & Lamar.”. Early in their courtship, however, their engagement was filmed for television, and the E! network broadcast their immense 2009 wedding ceremony. The couple got married only 30 days or so after they first met.

Rumors of a marital breakup have circulated furiously lately, particularly when the show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” recently did not feature him in any episodes. Despite whatever other problems they might have, both husband and wife certainly have fame, notoriety and enough money for the future.

The breakup of their marriage, however, shows that, in the end, celebrities are just people, like the rest of us, and their marriages break down as well. Luckily for the rest of us, when we get divorced, it usually is without the glare of the cameras or gossip columnists speculating about our most sordid personal problems. Further, while the details of the coming property settlement and other issues in this divorce are probably destined to be splashed in the pages of supermarket tabloids, divorce attorneys are able to negotiate settlement agreements for most people and keep the details relatively private.
